Greece in STEVIA mode....a new natural healthy sweetener

Goodmorning.....today I though i would talk about Stevia (A plant )...... a few know about it but many could benefit from it as it is the new healthy sweetener that beats all market known low calorie unhealthy sweetners up to now. (Saccharin, Aspartame, Acesulfame-K, Sucralose, Neotame)
Stevia is a South American herb used as a natural sweetener for centuries. The leaves of the Stevia rebaudiana plant have a refreshing taste, zero glycemic index, zero calories and zero carbs. It is 25-30 times sweeter than sugar, and far more healthy!
Stevia is a safe alternative and the next big thing.

No wonder. It's all-natural, contains zero calories, and has a zero glycemic index.
Finally, you can supplement your food and drinks without the chemicals of artificial sweeteners and calories of sugar!
And it is safe for diabetics and hypoglycemics.

Stevia comes in many forms, liquid, tablets, powder and even comes with different natural tastes.

More info can be found on http://www.stevia.com/

However and since most of the people who read this blog are Greek and since we are also trying to help Greek Produce since our country is going through a crisis period, I would like to suggest a new healthy refreshing way that could benefit our health and our economy.......and that is....................EPSA(ΕΨΑ)  Refreshing drinks with Stevia....... GRAFFITI can beautify even the worst areas. 'Things change' Jo Peel creates.

'Things change' is a graffiti installation and stop-motion animation piece by british street artist Jo Peel, documenting the impermanence of human construction and the dynamic relationship we have with the natural world.
The piece was enacted on the wall outside of the village underground arts space in shoreditch, london, although the artist also placed physical objects like boxes, plastic bags, and rocks on the sidewalk below to add an immersive element to the depiction.

Jo Peel spent three weeks painting progressive scenes, snapping a photograph of each to be used in what is ultimately a three-minute animation that showcases the progression from untouched nature to construction sites to cities to urban decay to the ultimate overtaking again of the space by the natural environment.

Do we have a wall that we can change? How about waking up in a busy city with a ruined building across the road that has great Graffiti on it? Lets create something beautiful out of something misserable. Artists lets begin.

Friday 13, LUCKY or NOT LUCKY

We all have our Phobias....... some fear of a black cat, some say it is bad luck to have an obrella open in the house, others say that it is bad luck to pass under a stair....but what happened and we consider Friday the 13th Unlucky?

Friday, lucky or not

In pagan times Friday was the luckiest day of the week because it was ruled by the planet Venus, the symbol of love and fortune. In fact, Friday is named in honor of Freya, goddess of Love. But for Christians, Friday has not been a good day. Adam and Eve is said to have eaten the forbidden fruit on a Friday and died on a Friday. Jesus was crucified on a Friday.

For centuries sailors refused to set sail on a Friday. It is told that when the reluctance of seamen to set sail on a Friday had reached such proportions that it interfered with naval operations, the British Admiralty decided to prove once and for all that it is a fallacy. They laid the keel of a new vessel on a Friday, named her H.M.S. Friday, and launched her on a Friday. On her first voyage, setting sail on a Friday, she was commanded by Captain James Friday. She left the harbor and nothing has since been heard of her or her crew. The identical story has also found its place in American lore. But – fear not – it is a myth.

The fear for traveling on a Friday continued until the early 20th century where in Europe bus and train travel was lowest on a Friday. But before you say “Thank Goodness, it’s Friday!” consider that, FBI statistics show, most robberies take place on a Friday.

The number 13

It is believed that the fear for the number 13 stems from primitive man being unable to count past 12. Numbers beyond 12 do now have an individual and independent name but are a combination of the first 12 numbers. With 12 being the end of the line, 13 was moving into unknown territory.

In Norse mythology the 13th number led to the death of Baldur, the beloved of the gods. When the 12 gods gathered for a banquet in Valhalla, Loki gatecrashed the party, increasing the number to 13, which led to the death of Baldur. It also happens that in Tarot cards, 13 is called “Death.”

The baker’s dozen

The “unlucky 13″ is the reason why the thirteen loaves that bakers once supplied were never called by the number, but described as “a baker’s dozen.” The thirteenth loaf was regarded as a special bribe for the devil not to spoil the sale or the bread.

The lucky number 13

But 13 is not unlucky for all. The Mayas worshiped the 13 gods of the upper world. The Aztecs climbed 13 steps to their sacred places. Buddhists paid homage to 13 Buddhas. In Jewish faith, God revealed Himself by 13 attributes of bountiful mercy (Exodus 34: 6-7). The orthodox Jewish prayer book hold the Thirteen Principles of Faith. Jewish boys celebrate their Bar Mitzvah at age 13.

Designer SUSHI!!!

Developed by international ad agency I&S BBDO for the umino seaweed shop, 'design nori' is a series of intricately laser-cut seaweed for rolling sushi. each sheet of five designs-- 'sakura' ('cherry blossoms'), 'mizutama' ('water drops'), 'asanoha' ('hemp'), 'kikkou' ('turtle shell'), and 'kumikkou' ('tortoise shell')-- is based on an element of japanese history or symbology, meant to bring beauty, good fortune, growth, happiness, and longevity.
Because of the precision required in the cutting process, the seaweed itself is a thicker variety from the sanriku region of miyagi. umino plans to use the leftover clippings to sell as furikake topping or recompile into other sheets.
The project was commissioned to respark the sale of nori following the tsunami in japan of 2011, at a time when umino director hiroyuki umino notes that japanese are eating less seaweed than in the past.
'Design nori' s on exhibition through may 27th, 2012, at 'katagami style' of 19th century japanese stencil artwork, at the mitsubishi ichigokan museum in tokyo. the pieces themselves are available for sale only through the retail location in ibaraki prefacture and at the exhibition, currently for the price of 840 yen (approx. 10 USD) each. in the future, umino hopes to produce the nori on a larger scale and at lower cost.

KILL STRESS BEFORE IT KILLS YOU!!!!!

Stress Kills

In a community where stess is our best friend, its time we tried to help ourselves beat this horrible enemy before it destroys us.

Researchers suggest that as much as 60-90% of illnesses are directly caused by or exacerbated by stress. Stress is related to major illnesses like heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes, but can also cause back pain, headaches, tooth grinding, upset stomach and digestive problems, sleep loss and exhaustion, skin problems, unhealthy weight gain or loss, and of course, loss of sex drive. And that’s just the bodily symptoms: stress is linked to depression, anxiety, mood swings, confusion, restlessness, irritability, insecurity, forgetfulness, and a host of other negative mental and behavioral symptoms.
For all that, stress is often worn as a badge of accomplishment in our society. It’s not enough that we compete to see who can do the most, but we compete to see who can handle the most stress doing it. With such an unhealthy attitude towards stress, it’s no wonder that stress-related illnesses are so common.

Kill Stress

The only way to minimize the negative effects of stress is to minimize the stress itself — to identify the sources of stress in your life and either a) eliminate them, or b) rethink them to reduce the stress they cause. Note that this doesn’t include only the things we hate in our lives; stress can be caused just as easily by positive, life-affirming events as it can by negative events. Getting married, having a baby, getting a promotion, planning a kids’ birthday party, or taking a vacation can be just as stressful as dealing with your overbearing boss for 8 hours a day or coming up on a big deadline.
Since the big positive changes in our lives can be just as stressful as the negative ones, dealing with stress can’t be simply a matter of getting rid of everything that stresses you out. Instead, you need to develop practices and a mindset that dissipate and reduce the inevitable stress of life itself.
For starters:
  1. Make quiet time: Whether you meditate daily, go to the gym three times a week, practice yoga, go hiking on the weekends, or just spend an hour a night with a book, you need to create a space where you can clear your mind of everything that’s dragging at you.
  2. Stop procrastinating: You can put off important tasks, but you can’t put off worrying about them — and the stress that causes.
  3. Write everything down: If forgetting something would cause you stress, make sure you’ve got it written down in a trusted system so you know you won’t forget.
  4. Eat better: A good diet can help your body better deal with the effects of stress. A healthy diet isn’t all that complicated; as Michael Pollan, author of The Omnivore’s Dilemma, puts it, Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants. As a general rule, eat as much as you can from the "edges" of your supermarket — produce, bakery, butcher counter, dairy case — and save the stuff in the "middle" for once-in-a-while — Twinkies, Pop Tarts, potato chips, canned foods, instant meals, etc.
  5. Make family time: Try to eat at least one meal a day with your family (or with friends if you’re single). Better yet, eat at least one homecooked meal a day with your family/friends.
  6. Talk it out: Bottling up your frustrations, even the little ones, leads to stress. Learn to express dissatisfaction (in a constructive, non-hurtful way) and to voice your worries and fears to someone close to you.
  7. Prioritize: Figure out what in your life actually needs attention and what doesn’t. Know what you can easily let slide — and what you can drop entirely — and focus your energy on things that will actually make a difference in your life.
  8. Have routines: Having a set routine means you don’t have to worry about what comes next; after a while, it becomes second nature.
  9. Accept interruptions gracefully: Don’t let your rituals become so rigid that you can’t function if they’re interrupted. Leave yourself enough wiggle room to adapt to changing conditions.
  10. Know when to quit: Don’t stand for employers, friends, or lovers who treat you badly. Decide how much of yourself you’re willing to put into a relationship, job, or activity; when you cross that line, walk away and don’t look back. This applies to the little things ("At 5 pm, I go home") and the big things ("If things aren’t better after 6 months of marriage therapy, I want a divorce").
  11. Pay attention to yourself: Notice when you feel stressed, and determine the cause. Notice when your body hurts or you feel unhappy, and determine why — or see a doctor. Figure out whether the things you’re doing are fulfilling your own definition of a good, productive life — or somebody else’s. Give up unnecessary competition (you need to make a better product than your competitor does; you don’t need to have a prettier girlfriend or a faster car than he does).
  12. Love: Build relationships. Share yourself. Feel human warmth.

Underwater Fairyland...that is what I think of when I hear the name Zena Holloway

Fairyland, Wonderland, Waterland..................... My imagination just flows when I see the work by Photographer and director Zena Holloway. An artist that have admired for such a long time and hope to be able to put up an original print on my wall someday. Her photography calms me and relaxes me so much that I can close my eyes and travel away with it.

Born in Bahrain in 1973, Holloway grew up in London, where she currently lives and works. At age 18, while working her way around the globe as a scuba diving intstructor, Holloway began experiementing with underwater cameras and gradually taught herself the skills needed to master this most technical of photographic techniques.

Holloway regularly shoots for a variety of magazines and advertising clients who appreciate the unique impact of her colorful dreamlike images.
Most recently, she completed a two year project to illustrate Charles Kinglsey’s 1863 novel “The Water Babies” confirming her as one of the world’s most patient photographers for her ability to work with both animals and children underwater. (bio from ZenaHolloway.com)

Zena Holloway is not just a photographer...... but a dreamer that makes us dream to.

Swallowable Parfum !!!!!!!!!!!!

When you eat too much garlic, you’re reminded of your spicy meal as the scent seeps through your pores hours later.  A new company out of Amsterdam is developing a “digestible scented capsule” based on this bodily function. Swallowable Parfum that turns your epidermis into an atomizer. It does so by using the body’s natural processes to excrete fragrance molecules through the skin through perspiration, leaving tiny droplets of scent that are unique to the individual’s physical and emotional state. Although it’s still just a concept, and pending U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval, the technology could revolutionize the fragrance industry by personalizing scents based on your body chemistry.
“In a status-driven world where we are free to make our own choices, have access to infinite knowledge and information, and where anything is seemingly possible, we constantly seek out new ways to communicate our uniqueness and express individuality,” says McRae, an Australian artist who spent four years working as a “body architect” at Philips Design.

Once the capsule is ingested, the body’s fat-metabolizing enzymes break apart the lipids to release the fragrance molecules embedded within.

Together with Mansy, a synthetic biologist, McRae developed an edible capsule comprising synthesized lipid molecules that mimic the structure of fat molecules naturally found in the body. Once the capsule is ingested, the body’s fat-metabolizing enzymes break apart the lipids to release the fragrance molecules locked within. “Subsequently, the liberated fragrant molecules are excreted through the skin’s surface during perspiration,” McRae adds. The aroma’s potency depends on your body’s temperature, stress levels, or even state of sexual arousal.
As with anything we consume, health concerns abound. Is it safe? Will the molecules remain trapped in your body if you’re the non-sweaty types? Will undigested lipids be metabolized along with everything else? The capsule, says McRae, is part of her ongoing exploration into redefining the role of skin. We’ll await the results with bated breaths.

Wood casting Stools by hilla shamia

Israel-based product designer hilla shamia has always been interested with the imperfections within controlled products.
On show during milan design week 2012, 'wood casting' is made from a whole tree trunk that enabled shamia to preserve the natural form of the
piece while still having distinct boundaries in its creation. the square shape allows a sense of artificiality while leaving the memory of the material.
molten aluminum is poured directly onto the wooden the surface which burns the exterior. the plank is then cut lengthwise and inserted with
a frame to define its final structure.

The casting process is accompanied with high heat, flames and smoke. when the metal is cooled down and the mold breaks apart, the furniture piece reveals the dark border between the hot metal and wood. the object is a result of its process which outlines the materials, enabling us to observe the leakage of aluminum and the carbonized wood which is frozen in time. similar to nature, the final produce is unique, where no two pieces are identical. the incompleteness and randomness give the product its aesthetic value.
